| Job Placement |
 |
| SITUATION:
Career Resources Incorporated (www.careerresourcesinc.org) is a non-profit organization that provides a forum to match employers with job openings to job seekers looking for employment. This entire process is normally handled by Career Resources personnel in any of the five offices located in the Louisville, Kentucky area. This application was created in Access 97 and the company relied heavily upon its reporting capabilities to support its funding efforts. There was considerable interest in expanding the company's web presence to include an online version of the job posting and job seeking functions. Funding considerations required that the project be implemented in phases to allow a gradual movement from the local Access application to a fully web-enabled one. During the initial phases, the staff needed to be able to generate the same reports and queries they were accustomed to in the original application. |

WHAT WE DID:
This project was undertaken as a joint effort between two Intellas member companies. The web site for Career Resources had been developed and maintained in house using Microsoft Front Page. This process lent itself to using VBScript and Active Server Pages to implement the dynamic parts of the site. We developed a job seeker track and an employer track to accommodate the needed functions. Employers, agencies, and CRI personnel have login names that allow them to add open jobs to the system. Job seekers can search for a job position in a number of categories. When a job seeker wants to apply for a position, his or her resume is attached to an email message to the employer, agency representative, or to a CRI staff person. Jobs are closed and reopened as needed.
On a regular basis, the Access database is downloaded to the CRI office and linked to the original Access application. At this point, all of the reports and queries are run using the new data. There is no data entry being performed in the CRI locations; all database activity is now performed on the web site. |
 |
RESULTS:
The expanded website, although completed on time and within budget, has not been in the field long enough to establish statistical results. However, the long term plan is that the web interface will lighten the workload of the CRI staff and increase the exposure of available positions to the local community. We have enhanced the features of the site in an effort to make the process easy to use and to encourage both employers and job seekers to take advantage of the many services offered by CRI
We are working with Career Resources to continue to expand the site functionality to make it the 'one-stop' site for employers and job seekers in the metro Louisville area. |
